There is good news for EPFO subscribers. Now you can update exit date online in EPFO records after changing jobs.
“Now employees can also update their date of exit,” EPFO announced on Twitter on January 21, 2020.
Note that till now, the exit date could only be updated by the employer. Therefore, the EPF members were dependent on their ex-employers to enter or update the date of exit.
However, from now onwards even the EPF account holder can enter the date of exit after leaving an organization or company. Now you are not dependent on your ex-employer to update job leaving date in EPFO records.
Here is how to update your date of exit online on the EPFO portal.
How to update job leaving date in EPF account online?
You can update the exit date in EPFO records online through the UAN portal (Unified portal for members). Here is how you can use this facility.
1. Log in to the UAN portal using your UAN (Universal Account Number), password and captcha code. Remember, you should have activated your UAN to log-in.
2. Go to the “Manage” section on the top panel and under it, click on the “Mark Exit” option.
3. It will open a new page on your screen. Here you need to choose your EPF account number from the “select employment” dropdown menu.
4. Next page, enter the date of exit and the reason for the exit. Here, you can enter any date of the month in which the last contribution was made. You can check the month of the last contribution in your EPF passbook.
5. Click on the “Request OTP” option. Here, you need to note that the OTP (One Time Password) will be sent to your mobile number registered with Aadhaar. Enter the OTP in the required box.
6. Here you need to select the checkbox. Now click on “Update” and then click on “Ok” to update the exit date.
7. You will get a message that the exit date has been updated in your EPFO records.
8. Once it is done successfully. You can log in to the UAN portal to check the date of joining and exit from both EPF and EPS.
But, before you proceed to update job leaving date in EPF account, do remember to check whether the exit date is already updated by your employer or not.

How to check if the job leaving date is updated or not in EPFO records?
You can check the exit date in EPFO records online through the UAN portal (Member e-Sewa portal). Here is how you check it online.
1. Log in to the UAN portal (Unified portal for members).
2. Go to the “View” section on the top panel and under it, click on the “Service History” option.
3. It will open a new page on your screen. Here you can see the list of all the employers with whom you have had EPF accounts along with the date of joining and exit from both EPF and EPS.
4. That way you can check whether the exit date is already updated by your employer or not.
Notable Point
Note that the date of exit can only be updated after two months of the last contribution made by the employer. That means if you have left your job recently then you need to wait for two months before entering the date of exit.
