Form 26AS: How to view and download Form 26AS?

The due date for income tax return filing is 31 July every year. In this return filing season, you always come across two income tax related forms, one is Form 16 and other is Form 26AS. This post provides detailed information on how to view and download Form 26AS.

Form 16 is a certificate issued by an employer for tax deducted at source from your salary and deposited with the authorities. Form 26AS is an annual credit statement which shows all taxes received by the Income Tax Department for your PAN during the financial year.

What is Form 26AS?

Form 26AS is one of the most important documents required while filing income tax return. It is the annual consolidated tax credit statement which shows all taxes received by the IT Department for your PAN during the financial year.

It gives details of all the taxes deducted against your PAN number at various sources. Therefore, you should always view and download Form 26AS for any discrepancies before filing income tax return.

Here, you can see all the details of TDS deducted from your salary, pension or interest income.

This part covers details of income paid to you where no TDS has been deducted on it since you have submitted Form 15G or Form 15H with the deductor. You need to add this income to your taxable income for the financial year.

How to view and download Form 26AS

You can view and download it in two ways:

1. View and download Form 26AS from TRACES website.

2. You can view and download Form 26AS via Net Banking facility of authorized banks.

Follow the step by step process given below to view and download it from TRACES website.

Step 1

Go to Income Tax Department’s e-filing website (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home). Log in with your User Id, Password, and Captcha. If you are not a registered user then you have to register yourself on the e-filing website.

For registration, you need to fill your PAN number, name, and date of birth and choose a password. Once the registration process is complete, you can log in to e-filing portal using your user Id and password. Please note that your PAN number will be your user Id.

Step 2

Once logged in, go to “My Account” on the main menu and click on “View Form 26AS (Tax Credit)” from the drop-down menu.Form 26AS: How to view and download Form 26AS

Step 3

Step 4

Now you are on TRACES website. Here you need to select the box to agree to the usage and acceptance of Form 16 / 16A generated from TRACES. After selecting the box, click on “Proceed” button. Form 26AS: How to view and download Form 26AS

Here, select the “Assessment Year” from the drop-down menu for which you want to view/download your tax credit. Select the file format against the “View As” from the drop-down menu. If you want to view it online, choose the file format as HTML and click on “View/Download” tab. Download and View Form 26AS via Net Banking facility of authorized banks

You can also view and download Form it via Net Banking facility of authorized banks. A PAN holder having a net banking account with any authorized bank can use this facility.

You can view Income Tax Form 26AS download using this facility if your PAN number is linked to your bank account. You can avail this facility free of cost. Following banks are authorized for providing this facility

Follow the step by step process given below to download and view Form 26AS using your bank’s internet banking website.

Step 1

Visit here http://contents.tdscpc.gov.in/en/netbanking.html

Step 2

Click on the link of the bank with which you have internet banking facility. Also note that your PAN have been mapped correctly.

Step 3

Once clicked on the concerned bank link, a message will appear that will prompt you to go to the bank’s site.

Step 4

Here, you need to login to the Bank Website using your Net Banking login credentials.

Step 5

Click on the “Tax Credit Statement” to view the details.
