There is no need to go to the EPFO office or wait for the annual PF account slip for balance inquiry. In the last few years, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has started many services to check EPF balance.
With new services, checking your provident fund has become very easy and hassle-free. Now you can check PF balance in your EPF account any time from the comfort of your home or office.
It takes only five minutes for EPF balance check using any one of these four ways: through the EPFO portal, via SMS, using UMANG App, or by giving a missed call.

What is the Employee Provident fund?
Employee Provident Fund is a popular retirement benefits scheme for salaried persons in India. The EPF scheme is managed under the aegis of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
What is Provident Fund Balance?
PF Provident Fund balance is the amount present in your Employee Provident Fund Account. It consists of the amount contributed every month by you from your salary and the amount contributed to by your employer.
Ways to Check EPF Balance | Check PF Balance | EPF Account Balance
You can check EPF balance in the following four ways. You can choose a method which is most suitable for you.
1. EPF balance using EPFO Portal
2. PF balance through missed call facility
3. Provident fund balance through SMS
4. PF balance using UMANG App
PF balance check online using EPFO Portal
You can download the EPF passbook by logging in to the EPFO portal. Your login Id and password are the same you used to login on the UAN member portal. The PF passbook has all the details about the monthly PF contribution, interest credited, and the current available amount in your account.
EPF balance check by downloading the EPF passbook you need to have your UAN activated. You can get your UAN number from your employer and activate UAN at Unified Portal. Every time you have to log in using your UAN number and password to check PF balance using EPFO portal.
For the PF balance check with UAN number. Follow the below steps to view or download the UAN passbook using EPFO Portal.
1. Visit the EPFO website https://epfindia.gov.in/site_en/
2. Click on the “e-Passbook” link at the top right corner of EPFO website.
3. It will take you to another page.
4. Here, you need to enter your UAN number and password. Enter the Code after calculation and click on “Login” button.
5. It will again take you to a new page. Here you need to select your Member ID. After selecting your Member ID, click on “View Passbook” tab to view your passbook.
6. It will show your EPF passbook.
7. Here, you can check PF account balance and other details in your passbook of EPFO.
8. You also have an option to download or take a print of your passbook of EPFO.
Check EPF balance through missed call facility
This is the easiest and free method for the PF balance check. You can check your PF account balance at any time (24X7) using a missed call facility.
Just give a missed call on 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number and within a few minutes, you would get an SMS.
The SMS will contain your member details and provident fund. Note that only EPFO members registered on the UAN portal can use this facility.
Check EPF balance through SMS
If your UAN is activated, you can also check PF balance and latest PF contribution with EPFO by sending an SMS to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.
The format for SMS for PF balance check is – EPFOHO UAN LAN
Write your UAN number in place of UAN and write your preferred language code in place of LAN.
Currently, this facility is available in 10 languages. You can receive SMS in your preferred language.
Codes for different languages are Hindi – HIN, English – ENG, Telugu – TEL, Punjabi – PUN, Malayalam – MAL, Tamil – TAM, Bengali – BEN, Marathi – MAR, Kannada – KAN, and Gujarati – GUJ. You can use this facility to help at any time to know your provident fund balance.
Check EPF balance using UMANG App
You can also check PF balance on your mobile phone using UMANG App. UMANG App allows you to access many government services online.
Download the UMANG app on your smartphone and complete registration using your mobile number. Open the app and click on the “EPFO” icon on the homepage.
Now click on the “Employee Centric Services” option for EPF balance check and download your EPF passbook.
