What is WhatsApp Pay?
WhatsApp Pay is an in-chat payment feature that allows you to send and receive money via WhatsApp. WhatsApp payments is UPI based payments service. It has been designed in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
The payments feature is live now with 4 banks through UPI for up to 20 million users in India. These four banks are State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank.

WhatsApp Payment service allows you to transfer money like sending messages. For sending and receiving payment through WhatsApp Payments, you first need to add your bank account. Also need to verify the last 6 digits of the debit card and the expiration date.

How to add your bank account on WhatsApp?
To use WhatsApp Payment App, make sure that you are using the latest version of WhatsApp on your Android or iOS phone. To add your bank account, it is necessary to have an active account at an Indian bank that supports UPI. Your WhatsApp number should be the same number that is associated with this bank account. Here is a look at how you can add your bank account.
1. Open WhatsApp on your Android device. Tap on the three dots appearing on the top right-hand side of the app. For iOS, open WhatsApp on your iPhone. Tap on the “Settings” option on the bottom right-hand corner.
2. Tap on the “Payments” option. Choose the “Add payment method”.
3. Click on the “Accept and Continue” to accept the WhatsApp Payment policies.
4. Here choose the name of your bank from the list of banks.
5. Next, if you have two bank accounts in this bank then choose the bank account, with which you want to make the payments.
6. After you’ve selected your bank, tap on the “Verify via SMS” tab to verify your phone number.
7. After verification, your bank details will be added for payments.
8. Click on the “Done” to finish setting up WhatsApp Payments.
How to send money on WhatsApp
WhatsApp Pay allows you to send money to your WhatsApp contacts as well people who are not registered with WhatsApp Payments. If a contact is not using WhatsApp Payments. Then you can send the money using his/her another UPI ID like Google Pay, PhonePe, etc. You will get a message that the selected contact needs a payment account. After this, you can select the “Send to Another UPI ID” option to send money. You can also transfer money using the “Scan QR Code” option.
Send Money to a WhatsApp Contact
Just follow the below-mentioned steps to send payments to a WhatsApp contact.
1. Select the contact from your WhatsApp contact list to whom you want to send money.
2. Open the chat option for the selected contact.
3. Tap on the attachment icon on the chat.
4. Next select the “Payment” option.
5. Enter the desired amount you wish to send and tap on the “send” option.
6. Here, enter your UPI PIN to complete the payment. Once UPI PIN is entered, the money will be sent to the receiver’s bank account.
7. Once done, you can see the payment acknowledgment on the chat’s interface.

Send Money to the people who are not using the WhatsApp Pay
Just follow the below-mentioned steps to send payments to the people who use other UPI IDs like Google Pay, Phone Pe, etc.
1. Select the contact from your WhatsApp contact list to whom you want to send money.
2. Open the chat option for the selected contact.
3. Tap on the attachment icon on the chat.
4. Next select the “Payment” option.
5. Tap on the “Send to Another UPI ID.
6. Next enter the recipient’s UPI ID and click on the “Verify” tab.
7. Once the UPI ID is verified, enter the desired amount, and click on the “Enter” tab.
8. Enter your UPI pin to complete the payment. Once UPI PIN is entered, the money will be sent to the receiver’s bank account.
9. Once done, you can see the payment acknowledgment on the chat’s interface.
10. You can also check your payment history in the “Payments” option.
How to receive money on WhatsApp?
You can also receive money on WhatsApp in the following ways.
Sender using WhatsApp Pay
If the sender is using WhatsApp Payments, then he/she has to follow the above-mentioned process of sending the money.
Sender not using WhatsApp Pay
If the sender is not using WhatsApp Pay, then you have to share your WhatsApp Pay UPI ID with the sender. The sender can send the money to your WhatsApp Pay UPI ID using payment platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, etc.
