State Bank of India (SBI) has asked its customers to replace their old magstripe debit card. SBI will issue EMV Chip Debit Card free of cost to you for enhanced security. You can apply for it through various channels like Internet Banking, Yono App or by visiting home branch. Here is a complete guide on how to apply for SBI EMV Chip Debit Card.

Chip card security is the latest global standard in debit card security. This standard (called EMV for “EuroPay,” “MasterCard,” and “Visa”) includes a small microchip in the debit card that protects you against fraudulent transactions. This is a much secure technology as compared to Magstripe variants of debit card.

You can identify your SBI debit card easily as an SBI EMV Chip Debit Card if there is a chip located on the face (center-left position) of the debit card.

Apply for SBI EMV Chip Debit Card through Internet Banking

You can apply for SBI Debit Card online if you are using SBI net banking facility. Just follow the step by step process given below to apply online.

Visit SBI official website (www.onlinesbi.com) and log in to your SBI online banking using your user Id and password.
Once logged in, you will see “e-Services” tab on the main menu. Click on it.
Here, click on “ATM Card Services” option from drop-down menu.
Now, click on “Request ATM/Debit Card” option.
A new webpage will appear. Here, select your SBI account number.
Enter your name to be printed on the debit card in the field provided.
Now, select the type of card you want to apply from the drop-down menu.
Click in the box to accept terms and conditions.
Now, click on “Submit” tab to proceed further.
Confirm your request details and click on “Submit” button.
Here, you need to choose the option to validate either using OTP or profile password.
Validate using OTP or profile password as selected by you.
After successful submission, you will see a success message on the screen as in the image below.
You will receive your card within 7-8 working days at your registered address.

Apply for SBI EMV Chip Debit Card through Yono App

You can also apply for SBI Debit Card using SBI YONO App. Follow the steps given as under.

Download and install SBI YONO App from Google Play Store or App Store.
Log in using your SBI Net banking user Id and password.
If you are not using SBI internet banking facility, then activate your SBI Internet Banking by visiting the SBI website.
Tap on “Service Request” option.
Next page, tap on “ATM/Debit Card” option.
Now enter your Internet banking profile password and tap on “Next”.
Next tap on “Request New ATM/Debit Card”.
Select your SBI account and select type of card you want to apply from the drop-down menu.
Select an address for dispatch and click in the box to accept terms and conditions.
After selecting all these, submit your request.
Your card will be sent at your address within 7-8 working days.

Apply for SBI EMV Chip Debit Card by visiting your Bank’s Home Branch

If you are not using SBI Internet banking facility, then you need to visit your bank’s home branch to apply for SBI EMV Chip Debit Card. You need to fill a form and submit it at the bank’s branch. The card will be sent at your registered address within 7-8 working days.
