The Income Tax Department on the income tax portal is urging taxpayers to pre-validate their bank accounts to receive income tax refunds. Therefore, in this post, I will share information about how to pre-validate bank account to get your tax refund.

Prevalidation of Bank Account to claim income tax refund
Apart from ITR filing, prevalidation of bank account is mandatory to get income tax refund. The Income Tax Department will credit your income tax refund in your bank account only if it linked with your PAN.
For this purpose, you need to link your bank account with PAN and prevalidate bank account on the e-filing portal. You can check if it is already validated for PAN linkage by logging on your efiling portal.
If it is not pre-validated then pre-validate bank details in income tax. The online procedure to pre-validate explained below.

Linking PAN with Bank Account
Apart from prevalidation of bank account, you also need to do is to ensure that it is updated with your PAN. If your PAN is not linked with it then you need to link your PAN with it. This can be done in the following ways:
1. Online linking of PAN with your bank account on the banking website.
2. Visiting the bank branch.
3. Calling bank on their toll-free number.

How to pre-validate bank account to get tax refund?
The procedure to pre-validate the bank account to receive tax refunds given below:
1. First of all, go to the income tax e-filing website (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).
2. Click on the “Login Here” tab and enter your login credentials. Here, use your PAN number as user Id. Enter the password and captcha code.
3. After logging in, go to the “Profile Settings” tab and select the “Prevalidate Your Bank Account” option.
4. Here, fill your account number, IFSC, bank name, bank branch, mobile number, and email Id. The PAN, your name, mobile number, and email Id provided here must match with those updated in your bank.
5. If it is already pre-validated, it will be shown on the screen. If you want to get the income tax refund amount in a different bank account, then click on the “Add” option and fill the required details as mentioned above.
6. Next, click on the “Pre-validate” tab. Now you prevalidate bank account request submitted.
7. The submitted details immediately cross-validated with the bank. If confirmed by your bank then it will be validated. Now it is ready for ECS credit of any refund due.
8. This way, you can validate multiple accounts on this portal and can choose any one from them in ITR filing for income tax refund amount.
Note: You can also pre-validate it using the internet banking facility of your bank.

How to check the status of your request?
You can check the status of your request in the following two options:
Option 1
Click on the “Pre-validate” tab. Once clicked, a message will appear on the screen that says, “Your request for pre-validating bank account submitted. Status of your request sent to your registered email Id and the mobile number”.
Option 2
Go to the income tax e-filing portal and log in. After logging in, go to the “Profile Settings” tab and select the “Prevalidate Your Bank Account” option. The status of your request displayed on the screen.
How to remove a bank account from the e-filing portal?
To remove an account from the e-filing portal, log in to e-filing portal. After logging in, go to the “Profile Settings” tab and select the “Prevalidate Your Bank Account” option. Next, select the account you want to remove and click on the “Remove” option.
