This facility is for allotment of Instant PAN for those applicants who are holding a valid Aadhaar number. You can avail of this facility on the Income Tax e-filing website. It is issued in PDF format and that too free of cost.
You need to type in your Aadhaar number and submit the OTP received on your registered mobile number. Once done, a 15-digit acknowledgment number generated.
After submission of the request, you can check the status of your request at any time by providing Aadhaar number. In case of successful allotment, you can download the PAN.
You will also receive a copy of it in your e-mail which is registered with the Aadhaar database. The entire process is completely paperless.

What is PAN (Permanent Account Number)?
A permanent account number (PAN) is a 10-digit alphanumeric unique number. It is issued by the Income Tax department as per the Income Tax Act & Rules. PAN is necessary for filing income tax returns. It is also required by financial institutions and agencies.
What is Aadhaar based Instant PAN Card?
Aadhaar-based instant PAN allotment facility is to allot PAN on a nearly-real-time basis. You need to quote an Aadhaar number issued by UIDAI which is not linked with any PAN card.
The e-KYC data of that Aadhaar number is verified UIDAI. After due process of e-KYC data in the Income-tax department database, you get an Instant PAN. IT department issue it in PDF format and it is a free facility.
What are the prerequisite for availing of this facility?
Here are some prerequisites for availing of this facility.
1. You should have a valid Aadhaar number which is not linked to any other PAN card.
2. You should have your mobile number registered with your Aadhaar.
3. The entire process is paperless. You are not required to submit or upload any documents.
4. You should not have another PAN card. Holding more than one PAN card will result in a penalty under section 272B(1) of the IT Act.
How to apply for Instant PAN through Aadhaar?
Follow the below mentioned steps to apply for Instant PAN through Aadhaar.
1. Visit the e-filing website of the Income Tax department. (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).
2. Click on the “Instant PAN through Aadhaar” link on the left-hand side navigation bar. This step opens a new page.
3. Here, click on the “Get New PAN” tab.
4. Enter your Aadhaar number in the space provided. Next step, enter captcha code and click on the checkbox to confirm. Here, you are confirming that you are accepting terms and conditions. Next, click on the “Generate Aadhaar OTP” tab.
5. Now, you will receive an OTP on the registered Aadhaar mobile number. Submit this OTP in the space provided on the webpage.
6. Once submitted, an acknowledgment number will be generated on the screen. Note down this acknowledgment number for future reference.
7. Once completed, you will receive a message on your registered mobile number and e-mail id (if registered in the UIDAI database and authenticated by OTP). This message specifies the acknowledgment number.
How to download Instant PAN?

1. Visit the e-filing website of the Income-tax department. (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).
2. Click on the “InstantPAN through Aadhaar” link on the left-hand side navigation bar. It redirects you to a new page.
3. Here, click on the “Check Status / Download PAN” tab.
4. Enter your Aadhaar number in the space provided. Next step, enter captcha code and click on the “Submit” tab.
5. Now, an OTP sent to the mobile number used for submitting the request. Submit this OTP in the space provided on the webpage.
6. Next step, check the status of your application, whether PAN allotted or not.
7. If it is allotted, click on the “Download” link to get a copy of the e-PAN pdf.

Yes, this PAN is valid.
Is this different from the PAN issued via other modes of application?
No, this is not different from the PAN issued by the IT department via other modes. However, it is paperless, online and free of cost.

Can I use this Instant PAN facility if I already have a PAN?
No. You cannot use this facility if you already have a PAN as per provisions of Section 272B(1) of IT Act. Note that a person having more than one PAN has to pay a penalty of Rs.10,000.
Can foreign citizens apply for Instant PAN through e-KYC mode?
No. Foreign citizens can not apply for PAN through e-KYC mode.
What if I do not get an OTP (One Time Password)?
