What is DigiLocker?
DigiLocker is a simple and secure document wallet for Citizens. It is a cloud-based document storage system (Digital Locker) of the Government of India. It eliminates the use of physical documents as all data is stored in the cloud.
Using the DigiLocker app you can access certificates like driving license, registration certificate of vehicles, academic mark sheets, in digital form from its original issuers.
You can also store important documents such as PAN card, Aadhaar card, driving license, academic mark sheets, insurance policies, certificates, etc. in electronic form. You can also access these documents anywhere you want.

How to avail DigiLocker facility?
You can avail digital locker online as well as through the mobile app. You can access the DigiLocker website at https://digitallocker.gov.in/. Digilocker app download: Digilocker mobile app for Android users and Digilocker for iPhone users.
Pre-requisites
DigiLocker sign up is very easy. All you need is to have a mobile number or Aadhaar number which is linked to your mobile number.
How to create DigiLocker Account?
1. Visit the DigiLocker website or download digital locker app on your smartphone.
2. Enter your mobile number or Aadhaar card number.
3. Post submitting the details, you will receive an OTP on your mobile number.
4. Enter the OTP (One Time Password) in the space provided.
5. Once authentication is complete, you can create a DigiLocker username and set up a security PIN.
6. This will open a DigiLocker account for you.
Getting e-documents
You can get e-documents such as a driving license or vehicle registration certificate by entering license or vehicle registration details. Note that getting the digital driving license and registration certificate of the vehicle your Aadhaar number is linked with your DigiLocker account.
How to upload documents?
1. Click on the upload icon to upload them from inside your “Uploaded Documents” section.
2. In the file upload dialog box, find the file from your local drive, and select “open” to upload.
3. Next click “select doc type”. A pop-up comes with a drop-down selection of various document types. Select the appropriate document type and click on the “Save” tab.
4. Here you can also edit the name of the file.
5. Maximum file size that can be uploaded is 10MB.
Can an NRI sign up using a foreign mobile number?
No, it is not possible. One can register in DigiLocker using an Indian mobile number only.

Notable Points
1. Note that your mobile number should be linked with Aadhaar card to link your Aadhaar with it.
2. It is not mandatory to use your username for Digilocker sign in anymore. Digilocker login can be done using your mobile number or Aadhaar instead of a username.
3. You can store up to 1 GB of documents.
4. The government departments can also use it to issue various certificates or mark sheets electronically.
5. Note that file types that can be uploaded – pdf, jpeg & png.
6. You can also share them with others by sharing a link to the e-document.
